Senators demand answers from Justice Department and FBI on reports that Trump Administration shut down an investigation into White House Border Czar despite FBI recordings showing Homan accepting a cash bribe

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) joined Senator Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), and other members of the Senate Judiciary Committee in launching an inquiry into the reports that Trump Administration officials intervened to halt a federal corruption investigation into former Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and current White House Border Czar, Tom Homan, despite evidence of Homan accepting cash in exchange for promising future government contracts.

The Senators pressed the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for answers on when Administration officials were first informed of the investigation into Homan, who ordered its closure, and whether the White House played a role in the decision.

“These allegations against Tom Homan raise additional concerns that this administration’s immigration enforcement and deportation policies and actions, including its award of federal funds for detention centers or security related technology, have been and may continue to be influenced by Mr. Homan’s corrupt financial interests,” wrote the Senators.

The Senators also demanded the full investigative file, including any recordings of Mr. Homan receiving cash from undercover FBI agents, be shared immediately with Congress and made public.

“Under your management, DOJ has touted its commitment to transparency and released records from other closed investigations. This case should be no different,” continued the Senators.

In addition to Padilla, Schiff, and Durbin, the inquiry was also signed by Judiciary Committee members Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Cory Booker, (D-N.J.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Peter Welch (D-Vt.), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.).
