WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif), a member of the Senate Rules Committee and California’s former Secretary of State, issued the following statement on the For the People Act: 

“The For the People Act would establish an important baseline of voting rights and ballot access for all voters in all states. I know that the For the People Act will improve voting rights in America because as California Secretary of State, I helped adopt and implement these best practices. The 2020 election in California was a success: it was accessible, secure, and safe, and it drew a historic voter turnout. With the right to vote under attack in states across the country, it is both important and urgent that we act on these proven, common sense election reforms. I will continue to fight for voting rights and election modernization until we find a path forward.”
