WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) released the following statement on the passing of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka:

“Richard Trumka was a giant in the fight for economic justice. He dedicated his life to improving the lives of workers, from the millions of Americans represented by the AFL-CIO to the unions fighting apartheid in South Africa. Richard’s lifetime of public service transformed the labor movement and supported countless families on the paths to their American dreams. He fought to build solidarity against all forms of injustice and discrimination.

“I am deeply saddened by his passing and send my condolences to Richard’s family and colleagues. To honor his life, we must redouble our commitment to fighting for the wellbeing and the dignity of every worker.”
