In 1937, a Member of Congress requested a flag that had flown over the United States Capitol Building, commencing the Capitol Flag Program. Senator Padilla’s office is pleased to participate in this program, and can help constituents purchase American flags that have been flown over the U.S. Capitol Building in commemoration of special occasions or events.

The requested flag can be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the Architect of the Capitol including the name of the person or organization for whom the flag was flown, the date that the flag was flown, and the occasion.

To purchase a flag from our office please fill out the flag order form below, which routes to Pay.gov. Forms must be received at least two weeks before the date the flag will be flown. Please allow an additional 4-6 weeks after the flag has been flown for delivery.

Important Considerations

Once a date has passed, it is no longer possible to purchase a flag flown on that date. However, you may request a pre-flown flag, which can be accompanied by a certificate that does not specify the fly date.

Our office can only accept orders from California residents. If you do not live in California, please contact the Senators from your state or the Representative for your congressional district.

Only American flags can be purchased and flown over the U.S. Capitol. To order a California state flag flown over the California State Capitol building, please contact your State Senator or State Assembly Member.
